White House Black Market is an
American fashion store targeting women 25 years of age and
older. White House
Black Market is known for its sleek lines, and its focus on white,
black, and other variants of the two colors. As of 2009, there are
334 stores (including outlets) throughout the United States, Puerto
Rico and United States Virgin Islands.
In 1985, The White House, a tiny
women's boutique exclusively offering white and ivory apparel and
accessories opened its doors in Baltimore, Maryland. Continuing its
monochromatic theme, the same owners opened Black Market in 1995.
The concepts were combined in 1997, creating White House | Black
Market stores.
The brands significant focus is on creating a
comfortable, inviting and hospitable atmosphere for
customers. Seating is available in store with water
available. During special events food and refreshments, and
catering are occassionaly offered. Customers who are members
of WHBM's loyalty program "Black Book" are entitled to 5% off
upon achieving perminant member status. Other perks include
catalogues, double discount days, and "Girls Night Out" where
the store will close for a private party, provide
refreshments and personal shoppers.
